Any idiot can do what I do to make $ online. It's not rocket surgery, it's cake. Also, I like pie.

So you work online – whether full-time or part-time – and are your own boss and working for yourself, or trying to be.

Whatever your results, it’s ALL up to you and what you do.

So what do you do when you don’t feel like doing anything?

Times are tough. Everyone seems to be struggling these days, whether it’s because of the continuing crummy state of the economy in the US (no matter what the government says about “improvement”), personal issues, or whatever. I have local-ish friends who’ve been on the job hunt for nearly three years now.

Some know I’ve been having a really hard time lately and a run of worse luck than usual. The truth is I’ve been dealing with some pretty nightmarish stuff in offline personal life for several months now, stuff I really never dreamed I would be dealing with and am sort of still in a continuing state of shock that it’s even happened.

Usually I’m pretty easily able to separate my professional life from personal life, but this stuff lately has been HUGE – and a really big blow – and I’m just not functioning so great some days and as I’d like. The things that historically have always normally kept me on the road to at least functional are no longer available to me. There are a lot of days lately when I’ve found myself just practically paralyzed and barely able to do anything at all work-wise.

Times like this, I’m very grateful I’m able to work on my own schedule. No doubt I’d have probably already been fired from a “real” job and some days I feel like firing myself (lol).

I try my best to keep myself occupied and busy most of the time – the busier I am, the less time I have to think about stuff that gets me down. I have my structured daily “to-do” list that I usually follow every day, but even that’s gone out the window a lot of days lately. Many days in recent weeks it’s just really been all I can do to get the least little thing done.

One thing I do try to make a point of every day – in both good times and bad times – is spend some quality time and put my full focus into at least ONE thing that will make me money, whether it’s working on a new squeeze page, putting some effort into some area of advertising that I’ve not done before, or any number of things that are potential money makers.

Granted, most of the daily tasks on my “to-do” list are designed for income purposes as well – not all, but most, since what’s the point in working on stuff that’s not going to make you any money – or at least continuing to build my list daily.

But I do try to make a point of doing at least ONE special thing every day, even if it’s just for a half hour or so a day.

Those “one thing a day” things will really add up over time and you’ll see continuing results.

And after a while, you could organize yourself to try to do, say, TWO things like that a day. Or in my case – as I continue to try and increase and amp up my overall online efforts – I’ll probably work towards branching out to doing things like building a new niche blog every day. Or building a membership site a day (or maybe every week for that, lol). Just things like that – anything to increase one’s income and online efforts.

I’m not perfect, by any means, and as times have grown more and more difficult lately, I’ve been slacking even when I have the best of intentions and not getting things done as I’d like. I historically don’t function terribly well under a lot of stress and upset, but who does?

But still, even now, I do keep that goal in mind every day – just ONE thing that will potentially make me money – as well as trying to stay on top of the daily “to-dos”. In fact, at this point with all this other stuff going on, it’s more important to me than ever to at least try to get that one thing done every day.

If you can keep yourself on task like that – even if it’s just that one thing per day, and make an extra effort during the “I don’t wanna do anything” times to get it done – you’ll probably see results in a very short time. Then bump it up to things a day. Rinse and repeat.

So my question to you is – what do YOU do when you don’t feel like doing anything? Any tips or tricks or hints? I’m all ears and I’m sure others will be too.

PROMOTE YOU FIRST: You probably heard a LOT about this already, but hey, in case you didn’t – Beth Allen released her Power of Promoting You report yesterday.

It’s full of the good stuff that all of us Traffic Exchange Live peeps talk about just about every single day about the value of branding YOURSELF online and promoting YOU first.

It’s a really good read and worth your while if you’re trying to make money online and haven’t picked it up yet. I highly recommend you grab your copy of Power of Promoting You right now and take a look!

OK, first things first… you need to know that Jon Olson has called yet another TE Town Hall Meeting tonight (Monday) at 7pm EST in the Traffic Exchange Live conference room.

The main topic for tonight is:

How to Engage Other Surfers & Get Results in the Traffic Exchanges

You can read more on that and other such stuff at Jon’s latest post at Hit Exchange News.

But as always, it’s kind of a free-for-all and there will be plenty of time to talk about whatever anyone’s interested in and chitchat. There will be lots of TE owners, surfers, and probably some credit specials announced and possibly even some giveaways (knowing Jon), so drop by & hang out & network with other TE people and be here at 7pm EST tonight (Monday night).

Now onto the other stuff on tap for today… like a hot off the press (can you believe it?) TE Live update post!

Mass Hysteria Monday at Traffic Exchange Live:

  • Why “Mass Hysteria Monday”? Well, for one thing, the room today was literally INFESTED with Olsons of all flavors and as time went on, more and more Olsons kept creeping in. There was Paul Olson, sexyolson, Jimmy Olson, Tim Olson, Stephen Olson, Stick Out Olson, Puddy Olson, and probably a few other Olsons I didn’t make note of.
  • Of course Jon Olson was there as usual too, as was (late and full of excuses) Tim Linden.
  • Who were all these Olsons? At first, Jon thought Paul Kinder and Tim Rash were playing a joke on him when there were only two or three additional Olsons in the room.
  • As time wore on, it was obvious that those who did show up for TE Live on Friday (even though it was “officially” canceled) had hatched this master Olson plan for Monday.
  • I’d commented that maybe tomorrow we should all be Olsons, but as TE Live stretched on it was apparent that had already been carried out.
  • We also had Elvis Smith, Jons Friend, and Tims Friend in the room.
  • People in TE Land think they’re comedians.
  • Jon got happy fingers talking about nerdy stuff from when he was a kid:

  • We discussed tonight’s upcoming TE Town Hall Meeting at 7pm EST, as well recent goings-on in TE Land which are totally uncool and criminal and people should be shot for doing what they do, but I’m not going to post the specifics here (another reason you should always attend TE Live and other gatherings in person!).
  • Jon wanted to talk about football. Tim wanted to talk about appliances.
  • Here’s Tim talking about the dishwasher he installed all by himself today:

  • Then we all got to talking about Sweeva again and new TE marketers and how everyone’s looking for the easy button because they want to make money fast, but you have to focus on making money steadily in TEs, not fast.
  • When Jon was new, he had a newborn baby and was completely broke but eventually he made it work (obviously).
  • Jon proclaimed John Bell and Jerry Iannucci the current “Kings of Sweeva”.
  • Here’s Jerry branding Tron instead of Sweeva today:

  • I said Jerry was the court jester of Sweeva.
  • I think Tim started talking about dishwashers again before he had to disappear and go fix Sweeva.

  • During all this, there was still such Olsonism going on all around the room that I just really couldn’t keep up.
  • Jon pushed his big red “That was easy” easy button and Robert Puddy pushed some talking button he has that I think said something I can’t print here or I’d be rated R.
  • And then Jon got a charley horse and boy, did that look like it hurt live on cam:

  • And pretty soon we all sort of dispersed, except a lot of people never actually left and are probably still there, because the TE Town Hall Meeting was going to be in less than three hours anyway (at 7pm EST).
  • GIVEAWAYS: I might as well stop even adding this line… (ahem)
  • I CALL YOU OUT ABOVE, YOU GET LINKAGE: Insidmal Design (John Bell), Safelist Marketing Tactics (Jerry Iannucci), Advertising Know How (Robert Puddy)
  • ALSO SEEN ON THE SCENE: James Holmes, Justin Ledvina, Kevin Bailey, Stephen Whittle, Darrell Whiston, Anthony Shenberger, Darren Olander, Charles Smith, Jared Silver, Andrea Smith, Julio Ruiz, Dorena Begonia, Cat Heiter, Robert Puddy, Beth Allen, Diane Merriam
  • QUOTE OF THE DAY: “Should we all be named Linden tonight?” – Jerry Iannucci

It’s been a little bit of an “off” week at Traffic Exchange Live this week so far – a lot of people (including myself and Jon Olson) have kinda had a case of the blahs all week, but we’ve still had a lot of attendees and activity and general chitchat and chatter going on in the room all week.

I’m not sure we’ve had under 20 people in the room at any one time all week  – sometimes over 25, nearly 30 – and that’s kinda weird (but very nice to see more activity and garden-variety networking going on).

Anyway, I wanna get this post banged out real quick today as I was feeling so crummy this morning, I’m behind on everything – so let’s get this posting party today started…

Whiny Wednesday and Tepid Thursday on Traffic Exchange Live:

  • As I mentioned above, it’s been kind of a blah week this week and, in fact, we haven’t even see Jon Olson on cam in days this week due to the blahs and the fact he was eating a messy BBQ for lunch before TE Live on Wednesday and didn’t want to get on cam because he said he was all messy.
  • Boy, did we see Tim Linden though. How could you miss him in this shirt?

  • All he needs is a matching pocket protector.
  • That shirt is also SO orange it hurts my eyes.
  • Jerry Iannucci bucked the trend of the day and wore a red shirt, though he was almost orange.
  • Jon had a rant about other traffic exchange owners saying traffic exchanges were a waste of time, and the room got involved in a long discussion about that subject.
  • We also discussed yesterday’s relaunch of John Guanzon and Brett Phillips’ program TE Reports, and talked about the rather tremendous smorgasbord of Wednesday night conferences on the table for the night (the bi-weekly Tezak Traffic Power conference, weekly SWAT Conference, and the monthly Get Referrals Fast conference for upgraded members).
  • James Dias, owner of Ablaze With Traffic, popped in for what turned out to be a very lengthy and I think very positive discussion about his exchange with Jon and others in the room.
  • Here’s James talking with everybody:

  • After the business discussion was pretty much tapering off, the room dissolved into football talk. Ahhhh…
  • Tim had an idea about renting out his brain for $1000 a month.
  • No programming involved. You get Tim’s ideas only for that $1000 a month.
  • Nobody at TE Live offered to take him up on it.
  • Tim and Justin Ledvina teased Jon about starting up their own company: “We’ve got a hardcore awesome programmer, a hardcore awesome designer… we don’t need Jon.”
  • Jon said they were “special boys”.
  • (Or maybe that was “speshul”?)
  • Then Carl Bailey and Jon joked about going into their own business together. “Now me and Carl are buddies… I’m taking my toys.”
  • On Thursday’s edition of TE Live, Tim was nowhere to be found, Jon was still blah and not on cam, and actually no one was on cam Thursday except this guy again:

  • That shirt of Jerry’s kinda reminds me of Wayne’s World.
  • Though off cam, Jon had more ranting to do on Thursday, this time about Sweeva and some stuff that had been going on there with people claiming their sites were banned.
  • Jon gave Jerry and John Bell (who wasn’t in attendance) props for calling out some of the scammy sites that have been rotating on Sweeva.
  • That discussion went on a pretty long time, then we got to talking about a certain multi-TE group that it’s been rumored has not been paying commissions.
  • This information was later verified by TE Live attendee Eric Holzwarth, who said he had not been paid his requested commission either.
  • And then I got interrupted by a phone call and pretty much missed most of the rest of TE Live for the day, even though everyone told me I didn’t miss much.
  • I did page up in the conversation I’d missed while on the phone, however, and noted what appeared to have been a very strange and lengthy discussion about… Twinkies.
  • (I’m serious.)
  • GIVEAWAYS: Riiiiight…
  • I CALL YOU OUT ABOVE, YOU GET LINKAGE:  Safelist Marketing Tactics (Jerry Iannucci), ThumbVu (John Guanzon), TE Reports (John Guanzon & Brett Phillips), Ablaze With Traffic (James Dias), AdKreator (Justin Ledvina), Instant Splash (Carl Bailey), Insidmal Design (John Bell), Lucid Leads (Eric Holzwarth)
  • ALSO SEEN ON THE SCENE: Brenda Broyles, Darrell Whiston, Diane Merriam, Dorena Begonia, James Holmes, Kevin Bailey, Ram Kumar, Stephen Whittle, Walter Mulder, Darren Olander, Ian Bakewell, Charles Smith, Marcus Villalobos, Anthony Shenberger, Lynne Sherman, Paul Brown, Jared Silver, Andrea Smith
