powered by Traffic Exchange Live, coffee, & the occasional nap…

Hey there, just a quick update as this just came across my e-mail a little while ago courtesy of that wild & crazy guy Jon Olson

There’ll be another TE Town Hall Meeting tonight (Sunday, September 5th) starting at 7pm EST in the TE Live room @ HotConference. You can reach it here:

==>  http://www.trafficexchangelive.com/room.php

I guess Jon missed us @TE Live while he was gone all last week and felt like hanging out, hehe.

Anyway, come one and all, it’s open to everyone… and if you’re a program owner, you might want to arrive with a special offer for those who attend. As Jon said, things like 2-for-1 credit deals can bring in extra income and gets everyone excited. :)

Barring another torrential downpour of trauma and baggage from my personal life (which kept me away from my two favorite evening conferences last week, groan), I’ll be there! Unfortunately I had already done a mailout today by the time the news about the TE Town Hall landed in my inbox, but hopefully this here will get the word out a little more.

Hope to see you there!

YOU DON’T WANT TO MISS OUT ON THIS ONE: The Goodfellas JV Giveaway will open on September 15th, and this one is THE one to sign up for as a contributor this month. This one comes highly recommended by JV Giveaway Tactics author Jerry Iannucci and lots of top marketers are participating, including Guido Nussbaum and John Cornetta – so there will be HUGE promotion for this one.

Huge promotion = More people to see and download your gift!

Don’t miss out on this one! Sign up as a contributor for the Goodfellas JV Giveaway today…

I kind of let the day get away from me today, but wanted to be sure and post a note about this ‘cos I think it’s really important.

I was on a call with Jerry Reeder this morning and we talked about tonight’s monthly Get Referrals Fast conference for upgraded members, and we think this is going to be one that owners of traffic exchanges and other program owners won’t want to miss. The upgraded conference is tonight (Wednesday, September 1st) at 8pm EST.

You do have to be an upgraded member to attend, though – but if you frequently read my blog at all, or the Get Referrals Fast training blog, you already know there are plenty of reasons to upgrade in Get Referrals Fast and that I thoroughly encourage it, and it’s available at a really, really reasonable price. If you’re upgraded at many TEs, you can – and should - afford the upgrade, it’s just that reasonable, and well worth it.

Like I mentioned yesterday, I have added way more subscribers in the last two or three weeks to my list with one of the products only available to upgraded GRF members than I think I have since the beginning of the year.

You can upgrade, if you’re not already, at Get Referrals Fast, and you’ll be able to get the room location and password from the member area once you’ve upgraded.

The weekly training conference for free members is tomorrow night (Thursday) as always at 8pm EST, and you won’t want to miss it either, but it is available to all members free or upgraded and also available to members of the public – so anyone can come. And it’s going to be all about traffic, so you might not want to miss it either. You can read more about the Thursday night conference on the Get Referrals Fast training blog.

But seriously, the upgraded conference tonight is one that traffic exchange owners and other program owners probably shouldn’t miss if they can help it, there’s going to be some Jay Hines-made magic on the table that you’re gonna want to know about.

Hope to see you there – be there at 8pm EST sharp, ‘cos the P in Mike Paetzold really stands for punctual and doesn’t wait around for latecomers before starting! Hehe.

TEZAK TRAFFIC POWER CONFERENCE TONIGHT TOO: Yep, it’s that time again too tonight for the bi-monthly Tezak Traffic Power conference, all members (and anyone) are welcome to attend!

Owner Tony Tezak holds great conferences and keeps everyone updated on what’s new or coming to TTP, and lots of times you can score some awesome deals on ads at TTP if you attend… I’ve kinda got a hole burning in my pocket itching to buy more list ads tonight because they’ve been doing VERY well for me, so here’s hoping and fingers crossed!! :-)

Come join us at the Tezak Traffic Power conference tonight at 6:30pm EST – you can click here to get to the conference room!

I don’t like Murphy.

You know, Murphy’s Law that says “anything that can go wrong, will go wrong”.

Except it always seems that in my case, Murphy always feels compelled to smack me in the face with an extra shot of “just when you think it can’t get any worse, it will”.

Yeah, it’s one of those kinda weeks, definitely.

Something for me that actually IS going right and not fifty one thousand ways of wrong at present is being an upgraded member of Get Referrals Fast. Thanks to one of the (several) products within Get Referrals Fast that is only available  for upgraded members to use, as well as what’s available to free members also, I have put as many or more new subscribers on my list in just a few weeks than I think I have since the beginning of the year, total.

Get Referrals Fast is a pretty great program for free members, but this is why being an upgraded member is so much more valuable. (And it’s a reasonable upgrade – you can get it for as much or less than any traffic exchange upgrade.) I also love the fact that Mike and Jerry provide quality training for all members AND the public, every single week, for free.

I’m glad something in my life is working out and going well this week. Ugh.

P.S. Pssst, I know where there’s bunches more free stuff  to grab… the No Labor – Labor Day Holiday Giveaway has just opened today and is open through the entire month of September, so go download all the goodies you want!

I know I really need to do a Traffic Exchange Live update, but they take twice as long to prepare as any “normal” blog post, and between having a bit busier than normal week this week and (one day) being just plain sick – I just haven’t done one yet. And as it turns out, Jon is going to be gone most of next week – and won’t host by himself most of the time – so that will give me lots of days to catch up on TE Live posts and not have to make one big huge gigantic post out of it. I have tons of photos saved up.

That said, today’s post actually is sort of a Traffic Exchange Live update anyway because it’s partially about something that occurred during TE Live yesterday, so hey – there ya go.

Before I get to that, though, I want to mention that when I fired up my browser yesterday, the top story on my news page said that Memphis was the second hottest city in the United States this summer, behind Louisville. (Numbers three, four and five were Atlanta, Raleigh NC, and New Orleans, respectively). So for anyone who rolled their eyes every time I’ve whined this summer about living in an oven – it was a valid whine!!!

So, we’ve been talking at TE Live recently about a problem that’s become obvious at Sweeva and trying to figure out the best solution. As most are aware, Sweeva has many useful aspects including just plain old good promotional value for those who aren’t really looking for feedback or aren’t rotating new pages they’re testing – but the primary concept behind Sweeva was as a tool for viewers to review and give feedback in comments on the sites being seen (in real time of course).

One of the problems that’s arisen since Sweeva’s inception is that quite a bit of the feedback is – at best – useless. Comment after comment after comment saying “nice!” or “thumbs up!” or “good” aren’t really a lot of help to a site owner trying to get feedback and reviews on a new splash page or sales page.

The more recent addition of rewarding comments with stars has only seemed to increase the amount of feedback that’s not useful, as many are only commenting hoping to get stars, or copying/pasting the exact same comment over and over again no matter what site they’re looking at. And granted, even before the comments for stars addition was made, there was still a great deal of “nice!” or “cool!” feedback that wasn’t much use, too – but the comments for stars has definitely increased this whole deal.

The other side of the coin in all this is there’s not much negative commenting being done – when sometimes there should be. And sometimes when a viewer states something they feel about a page that’s not praise, other Sweevers come down on them about it – and that shouldn’t be happening either.

The thing is, at Sweeva, if you’re running a page hoping to get feedback on it, what you really should want is to get real feedback – the good, the bad, and the ugly. You want to hear the negative comments as well as the positive, so you can make your page better.

Certainly there is often some taking with a grain of salt in that – some comments, while maybe well meant, just aren’t really useful or applicable. And another thing site owners running pages in Sweeva should remember is the fact that you just can’t please everyone – for every viewer that hates mostly white pages, there will be another that prefers white and clean to color, yada yada… but you can still take all the comments as a whole and do something useful with them to potentially improve what you have to offer and make your pages more appealing to more people.

Anyway, we’ve been mulling over things that might be done at Sweeva to at least lessen the amount of non-useful feedback and get more people to comment honestly, even if it’s negative, without fear of being dogged by the masses  – and so far nothing we’ve come up with has been a good solution, for one reason or another, but that’s what’s been on Jon Olson’s and Tim Linden’s – and our collective TE Live brain’s – minds recently.

But the main reason I bring all this up (you knew there’d be one) is because yesterday, TE Live regular Jerry Iannucci ran a little related experiment on Sweeva – all day, but also while we were all in TE Live – and while it may not have really solved anything, it was HILARIOUS.

You might have seen Jerry’s new video splash page (starring Mr. Iannucci himself) for Safelist Marketing Tactics, which we have all given high praise to ‘cos it’s really great.

Well, yesterday, he ran it in Sweeva with instructions at the top that he was giving stars for negative comments only, and much hilarity ensued – plus he was there live interacting with the page and egging it all on (“Sorry, not negative enough”) and responding to most of the comments (“Ouch!”), so it got even funnier.

It was funny enough when the page ran during TE Live and all of us were in there waiting for it (“Worst page I’ve ever seen, whoever designed that page should be fired,” said Winter Perkins, who I believe designed the template for the page, lol) – several more like comments from people who know and hang out with Jerry were posted (“That color blue is ugly and you should really vacuum your floor” from me, “What garbage with personal branding” from Jon), and it was all in good fun.

I just happened to be back on Sweeva later in the evening and saw that the page was live again, so I hurried and clicked to get in there and leave another zinger (“You don’t dust much, do you? And you should really buy a broom” – to which Jerry, who was there again, replied that hooray, I got a star for being negative).

But the best ones yesterday were coming from the pool of general Sweeva users. In between the ones who were still commenting “nice!”, “nice page”, and “cool” – and thereby not getting any stars – someone commented that Jerry’s hair looked like Our Gang/The Little Rascals, someone else commented last night about Jerry having a bad hair day (Jerry responded “Bad hair life, actually”), and there was a rather inexplicable but hugely funny comment yesterday afternoon about the page being somewhere between a New York City sewer and throw up, and more – all of which had me rolling on the floor laughing every time I saw a refresh of the page yesterday and last night.

Now whether this little experiment taught anyone anything about negative comments at Sweeva being okay or not, and whether anyone who really needed to learn anything from it did so – who knows.

But it was a lot of fun, and while Jerry would probably prefer not to be remembered for his Our Gang hair (lol) – you can bet there are going to be people that remember he was there, he was interacting with people, he was being the funny guy he always is – more importantly, that he’s a real person and he was being himself.

Which is something else we’ve been talking about at TE Live this week – just being yourself and the value in that, especially in social networking but other things too. Things like what Jerry did yesterday are worth their weight in gold when it comes to online marketing. Jerry Reeder tells me he usually only rotates his pages at Sweeva when he can be there to interact with viewers, and many of us do the same – or at least sometimes.

And really it’s not unlike the reason that many of us, including me, make a point of being at TE Live most every day – it’s fun and it’s a good place to network with others, it’s a bit of a traffic exchange think tank, and (bottom line) it’s also my water cooler break of the day from 24/7 working at my computer day in and day out… but it also keeps me out there, people have access to me because they know where I am every weekday, and I chat with – if not at TE Live, somewhere else – a sizable percentage of regular and active traffic exchange users every week, in chat rooms typing and sometimes on voice. I’m not just a name and photo to many – a good many of you out there have talked to me before. Plenty of you, lots and lots.

Of course, there’s new people that come into traffic exchanges every day, and that new person that started surfing for the first time yesterday at Sweeva likely doesn’t know Jerry Iannucci or Jerry Reeder or Lynn McCutcheon yet – or didn’t.

But if they were surfing Sweeva yesterday afternoon, they probably now know who Jerry Iannucci is – because now Jerry was that funny guy egging people on to give him negative comments on his page and going “Come on, you can do better than that!” to the positive comments. And they’ll remember him.

When the next cool product or e-book comes out, and that person really wants to buy it or rebrand it – who do you think they’re more likely to buy it from? Some nameless, faceless person rotating a generic splash or sales page in a traffic exchange? Somebody that’s only a photo and a name that you see around every now and again? Or the person whose name and photo (or in Jerry’s case, video) they’re familiar with and who was there that day in Sweeva chatting with people and made them laugh? Bingo.

And of course there are hundreds of other potential examples here. Rather than Jerry and his Sweeva video experiment, the person who you seek out to buy something from or upgrade under might be someone that was at Affiliate Funnel conference last week and helped you by answering some of your questions and giving you links to what you needed. Or someone that helped you with something or was just good company to chat with in I Love Hits chat. Or maybe you came to one of the weekly List Building Conferences for Get Referrals Fast and got some of the blunt and honest but great advice Jerry and Mike are so well known for. Or maybe a TE or program owner took the time to e-mail you back when you contacted them or had a problem, perhaps with some extra advice that turned out to be helpful and useful.

Point being – there are just so many opportunities to get out there, be out there, interact, and be of value to others… even if you’re not really trying to be of value to others and are just out there just being yourself. And who else are you gonna be besides yourself, anyway? You might as well just be yourself.

Others will appreciate that more – you just being yourself – and more importantly, will remember that. It might not make you wildly rich, no; but you’ll probably have a lot better chance at being successful in the long term than those who fake it or are insincere, and those who put on the schmoozy salesman face 24/7 and don’t know how to take it off. and be real. People remember those folks too, but not usually in a good way.

I personally am much more likely to buy something from or upgrade under someone like Jerry Iannucci, with his bad hair days and who makes me laugh pretty much daily. Or Jerry Reeder, who will be the first to tell you, and proudly admits to anyone and everyone, that he’s a punk rocker who yells at the TV. Or Jon Olson or Tony Tezak or Winter Perkins or Tim Linden or Mike Paetzold or Ian Bakewell or any of the other many people that I know because I see them and talk to them all the time – nearly every day or at least every week – many of whom have also generously helped me or answered my dizzy blonde questions when I needed help with something. I’d like to think I have helped a few people and been there for a few along the way myself.

We’re all real people. We’re all out there, here and there, and none of us are really very hard to find. Ever.

I’m more likely to buy from/upgrade under/whatever any of the above than some talking head that’s nothing to me but a face and a name on some sales page, someone who I’ve never seen around any of the dozens of opportunities there are in any given month to be seen and become known to people. I might be on their list and I might see their name in my mailbox often, even – but I’m much more likely to buy whatever they’re pitching from someone I know or am at least pretty familiar with.

People I don’t necessarily really know personally, but who are very active and interacting at Sweeva, have often gotten my attention for various things. They may not come to TE Live or Affiliate Funnel or the List Building Conferences or any of the other places I haunt, but I’ve come to “know” them from Sweeva and have frequently signed up for their list or whatever they’re promoting, mainly because they’re just being themselves and doing their thing.

People appreciate that. I know I do.

Just be yourself, and get out there, and be there – whether it’s at one of the many conferences/gatherings there are every single week, whether it’s running some pages at Sweeva and interacting with other viewers, whether it’s making a video splash page or squeeze page, whatever – just take some action to get yourself “out there”, and stay out there, and you’ll likely see your results improving and improving palpably as time goes on.

And just be yourself while doing it. You are your most valuable tool in your IM toolbox – not the program you’re promoting nor the tools those programs give you in your affiliate toolbox – so you might as well just be yourself. Go try it out this week on Sweeva and see.

List Building Conference Tonight @ 8pm EST: Yep, speaking of Jerry Reeder and Mike Paetzold’s famous weekly List Building Conferences, there’s another one tonight and tonight’s topic is Blogging and Social Media (two of my favorite subjects) – you probably don’t want to miss this one if you’re interested in either.

As always, they’re free to attend for all and you don’t have to already be a member of Get Referrals Fast to be there, just show up! Mike and Jerry love to answer questions and review pages so if you’re new to IM and stumped about something, come on by. Or just come and hang out! You might find out about something you didn’t know that could be of benefit to you.

Click the link for more details and join us at the 8pm EST List Building Conferences tonight!

If you’re a member of Tezak Traffic Power and have any list ad credits saved up, consider this a call to action to get some of those list ads in rotation!

Yes, I’m personally begging all Tezak Traffic Power members with list ads to do this ASAP. Why? Because my own list ads are getting eaten up so fast right now, I can hardly keep credits on them!

For about as long as I’ve been attending TTP’s bi-monthly conference and Affiliate Funnel conferences, TTP owner Tony Tezak will frequently ask people to please get their list ads in rotation if they have credits for them because there are not enough running at the time. People just don’t make use of them like they should (they really should!), and there are just so few rotating at any given time generally that what few are rotating – like mine now – go far too quick.

And surfing activity is high at TTP right now, says Tony – so what few list ads are in the system are going even quicker and being shown lots more!

What are list ads, you may be asking?

List ads are a traffic exchange advertising method that were first introduced when Tezak Traffic Power opened in July 2009, totally unique to traffic exchanges at the time (still are, as far as I know – I could be wrong there). List ads are an excellent way to advertise, because it’s pretty much list building on autopilot!

Here’s how list ads work:

All you have to do is create a new opt-in form in whatever autoresponder you use. Then you log in to TTP, write an ad header (up to 30 characters) for your list ad and create a quick description (up to 60 characters), then submit your autoresponder code for your opt-in form and bam! – your list ads are up and running (after you assign list ad credits to them anyway).

The list ads at TTP are featured on the bottom bar while people are surfing. When a surfer clicks on the header or description of your list ad, a pop-up appears with the surfer’s name and e-mail address already filled in the form, and all they have to do is click your call to action button in the opt-in form.

Voila! They’re immediately subscribed to your list (after they confirm their opt-in, of course).

If you are an upgraded member of Tezak Traffic Power, you’ve been getting list ad credits monthly – so if you haven’t been making use of them, you’ve cheated yourself already out of who knows how many potential opt-ins to your lists. Right that wrong right now and go create some list ads now!

And if you go to TTP today and need list ad credits (or regular credits, for that matter) – today’s your lucky day!

There is a VERY super sweet special going on today (Monday, August 23rd) until midnight EST on both list ad credits and regular credits. Check the “Buy Ads” page at TTP today and look for the specials in red and grab them fast!

This is dead easy advertising on autopilot, folks, so do yourself a favor (and make me stop having to log in twenty million times a day to assign more list ad credits to mine) and take advantage of this super easy and unique advertising method.

And if you’re not already a member of TTP – why aren’t you? Join Tezak Traffic Power today and remedy that right now!

Cops & Robbers at SWAT Traffic is Live! – I mentioned the other day that there was something new coming to SWAT Traffic, well, it’s here! Jon Olson and Tim Linden got that up and running quick!

Check out the new Cops & Robbers game - featuring foot races while surfing that are really cool and lots of fun- at SWAT Traffic right now!

(PS – Chat while surfing is coming to SWAT soon too! Stay tuned!)

If you use safelists and viral list builders to promote your stuff, I’m gonna fill you in on a little secret today…

If your e-mails are too long – I’m probably not reading them or clicking on your links.

You can have the best and most compelling subject line anyone has ever written since the beginning of time – but if your mail in safelists and viral list builders is too long, I’m probably not going to read it or click your link.

What constitutes as “too long”?

Well, for me, if I have to page down in Gmail to get to the credit link – I’m not gonna do it.

Not because I’m lazy (well, maybe a little). It’s just that when I sit down to go through safelist/list builder mail, I am generally only going to open a limited number at a time, and I only have so much time blocked off throughout the day to do it in.

Of course, this is just one safelist/list builder email reader’s habits. I am just one person and one safelist member out of thousands, and that’s just how I deal with it and everyone’s going to be different.

Some people are going to read the long ones and some won’t. I’ve had some longish safelist mails out there that have done very well before and gotten good results, but more and more often I’m leaning towards shorter mainly because I know my own habits about sifting through safelist and list builder mail.

We all know how being a member of just a few safelists and viral list builders means a torrent of e-mail you have to wade through. It comes with the territory, and most of us probably have our own individual processes of how we deal with it and probably nearly everyone is different in how they do it.

I have just gotten really selective about what I open and read and click on, mainly because I had to. I wish I had time to read every single solitary e-mail, but I just don’t (and granted, there are probably some I don’t really wanna read anyway!).

An exception to my rule (and probably most everyone’s) is ListJoe – I think most folks are probably always needing to stockpile credits there and those mails are somewhat more limited than others, so I pretty much read and click all of those even if I have to page down in Gmail to get to the link. (But I’m a lot happier with you if your e-mail is short and I don’t have to!)

State-of-the-Art-Mailer (SOTAM) is probably another exception because with the profit-sharing pool for active readers every month, you figure probably most mails are getting read or clicked there no matter their length. I do read and click most of those too.

I tend to do that with mail from places like My Profit Links too. I usually wind up going through a lot of mails from there at once, and I just skip the ones I would otherwise have to page down to get to the credit link.

On the other hand, I DO read and click most every solo mail that comes my way – so if you are spending extra to have the ability to send solos, you’re getting read and clicked there too.

I’m really talking about just the general, regular e-mails here, and especially from certain outlets. For instance, every day I try to open, read and click on a set number of mails from The List Auction and Viral Ad Store – because otherwise, I get too behind and can’t mail the maximum number of members I want to when my time to mail comes around.

When I get to doing those, I might be opening your email – but if it’s too long and I have to page down to get to the credit link, it doesn’t get read or clicked on usually. It probably gets deleted instead.

In trying to most efficiently utilize and maximize that short amount of time I give myself to go through a certain number each day, I open and open one after another – bam bam bam! – and the ones I click and look at their ads, they’re the ones that the credit link immediately appears in my Gmail and I don’t have to page down to get to.

Again, that’s just me and my habits and how I do it, and everyone’s going to be different. And there are exceptions – sometimes a name might catch my eye, or if it’s something about traffic exchanges in the subject line, sometimes I’ll open them and look.

And some mails, sorry to say, get passed over thanks to some of the safelists and viral list builders that use “top email ads” from upgraded members in the mails they send out – because that pushes the credit link down further in the mail and “under the fold”, as it were. Which is not the sender’s fault, but it often does push the credit link too far down to suit me.

In short – for me anyway – it’s kinda like the general rule/guideline about squeeze pages in traffic exchanges. Like the opt-in box on a page in a traffic exchange, your credit link needs to be “above the fold” in Gmail for me to click it and see your ad.

Again, it’s just me, and I’m only one safelist/viral list builder member out of thousands.

And I guess I should add that’s probably going to be a little different – whether or not a credit link is “above the fold” in Gmail and other mail systems – dependent on a staggering number of variables, including what size someone’s monitor is, what resolution they use for their screen display, etc.

Confused? Well, again, I’m just outlining all this because this is how I, personally, deal with all that mail, and everyone will be different, and some people won’t agree with me – and even I don’t 100% agree with me, since I can say I have certainly sent out longer safelist mails before that have gotten decent results.

So don’t take all of this as set in stone – maybe more of a general guideline and just something to think about when you’re crafting your next mail for safelists and list builders.

It’s kind of a guideline I’m using these days to stick to when I’m figuring out what to do about my own safelist and viral list builder campaigns.

I just think – in the overall grand scheme of things – shorter and to the point is probably better most of the time.

And since most people probably do use Gmail for their safelist mails, I think shooting for trying to get your credit link “above the fold” in Gmail is probably a good target.

One reason this came to mind to me this week to write about was because I was going through some safelist and list builder mails one night, and came across one (in several different site’s mails) that was probably longer than three or four of my longest blog posts ever all put together – it was huge!!! – I was just amazed. Yeah, it got my attention, I guess – but I still didn’t really read it and definitely did not click the credit link and look at their page.

I would have to say a good example of the perfectly sized safelist mail to shoot for is any one currently being circulated by Mr. Safelist himself, Jerry Iannucci (so it’s no real surprise that they’re good).

They’re brief and to the point, the credit link’s right there above the Gmail fold in most cases – they’re perfect. If you glance in probably any of the major safelist and viral list builder mail you have in your mailbox right now, look in the subject lines for “Safelist Marketing” and you’ll likely find one of Jerry’s. Open it up and you’ll see what I mean by a great example.

In any case, that’s my take on length of safelist mails for today. I won’t say I’ll never send out a really long one again, but I certainly am shooting these days for shorter. If you’re one of those sending out those huge long e-mails, yeah, you’re probably reaching some folks – but one of them’s probably not me.

If You’re Not a Member of This Safelist, You Should Be: One of my all-time very favorite and best performing credit-based safelists in my tool box for some time now has been Solomon Huey’s Elite Safelist. I am not upgraded in a lot of safelists but this is one I am – it is well, well worth the upgrade at any level for the credit benefits, mailing times, and increased commissions!

I’ll have a Traffic Exchange Live update on Monday, hopefully. Getting anything done this week is proving to be a monumental task.

I’m only human (yep, it’s true!) so I’ll admit it – I am having a really bad week this week and weekend, as it were. Between that and the constant struggle with nearly two months now of unseasonably 100F+ degree weather for weeks at a time – and the first rain we’ve had in weeks, the storm knocking my Internet out, as rain always does for me – it’s really hard to get much of anything productive done.

Mix all that with the fact that I just found out yet another friend has lost their job, and things get really depressing. When I suddenly found myself jobless for the first time in 25+ years now almost three years ago – back when things with the economy in general were just then really starting to look pretty bleak – only one or two of my friends were also recently then without a job, having been laid off or terminated otherwise.

Now I’ve lost count of how many of my friends have suddenly become unemployed without warning in the last three years. While a few have managed to find new jobs, most of them haven’t fared so well and are still looking for work and ways to bring in income.

I had to laugh several months ago when there was all that talk about “the recession (being) over”. I don’t know how things look where you live, but they’re as bad as they ever were here. Even more disturbing – friends and acquaintances in other countries are lately starting to report the same kind of dismal problems that we’ve been dealing with in the US these last few years where they are.

I don’t usually bring up marketing issues with family and friends. For one thing, with the exception of one relative who has basically a vested interest in what I do – they don’t ask, the friends and rest of the family. I expected it, because (as I’m sure you probably know) generally, whenever you mention the words “Internet marketing”, folks that aren’t already somewhat swimming around in the online marketing pool’s brains tend to shut off.

They don’t understand it, and most of what the general non-marketing public is aware of is the scammy stuff out there and the spam they get in their mailbox. One of my colleagues jokes that when his family asks what he does for a living, he tells them, “Well, you know that Viagra spam you get in your e-mail….?”

Which isn’t true, of course – but that’s about as far as many of them can comprehend the concept. I expect, too, that as I become more successful, some of those same family and friends that rather pointedly don’t ask me anything about what I do for a living – I suspect their questions will probably increase as the fact that I’m doing well and successful grows more obvious.

That all said – with times as tough as they are and the economy all over basically being in the toilet, there have indeed been a couple of times I have approached a friend or two – after a good deal of thought – and offered to point them in the direction of some things they could do to build up a little income.

With so many friends of mine out of work, there were certainly several that probably could have used that info, but there were a few in particular that I knew were in dire and desperate straits – and on the verge of losing everything, and basically completely without a career at that point – that I felt I could really help.

I laid out a few options – some marketing stuff, and some just plain “online money” that wasn’t even really business related. Even if all they did was act on one or two of my suggestions that could have made them a little spare change in all this free time they suddenly had since they no longer had jobs – it might not have paid all their bills, but they could have easily had grocery money they didn’t necessarily have on hand before.

I gotta tell ya – it’s amazing what people WON’T do, even when they’re desperately broke and in dire straits and on the verge of losing cars, houses, everything. Even when it’s relatively easily done and the little details are laid out for them in black and white – yet they won’t even give it a shot.

It’s easy to make spare change online with non-marketing resources. And believe it or not, it’s even pretty easy to build up residual income online that keeps paying you month after month.

My favorite resource for that – and the only thing I fairly regularly and actively promote right now besides me, my blog, and Traffic Pro-X – is Get Referrals Fast. Jerry Reeder, Mike Paetzold, and Jay Hines could not have possibly made this program any easier to set up and get going.

Not only do they give you virtually everything you need to promote it – with detailed simple instructions and video – but if you come to their List Building Conferences that are open to the public every Thursday night at 8pm EST, Mike and Jerry will give you exact and simple step-by-step instructions over the course of a few weeks of exactly what to do and how to do it, and answer any and all of your questions. Every single week.

Upgraded members get advanced training and more promotional materials and other benefits, but free members have access to every single thing anyone needs to promote Get Referrals Fast. And weekly training by Jerry and Mike themselves!

Just try and find a marketing coach you can get weekly for ten bucks a month, or for free.

I honestly don’t know why everyone on the Internet who’s a beginner trying to make money online is not in this program because it’s just so incredibly easy and comes with all you need to get started and get going, and the value of being able to learn from and talk to Mike and Jerry every week alone is way more than the upgrade costs.

Get Referrals Fast is based on the exact same method Jerry used in December to reach TrafficWave‘s Tsunami (highest) level of commissions in ten days. Yes, you have to have a TrafficWave account to use Get Referrals Fast (and if you already have one, great) because that’s what the program’s based on. You need an autoresponder anyway and TrafficWave is unlimited – the price stays the same no matter how big your list grows – and Jerry and Mike will teach you exactly how to use it.

It’s just so easy. I think of the friends of mine who are unsuccessfully looking for employment and income, and struggling to put groceries in their kitchens every week – yet they won’t even consider anything having to do with online marketing, because it’s “too hard” or it’s something they just don’t think they can do.

Get Referrals Fast is so easy that anyone can do it – and when you have questions or are confused, Mike and Jerry are right there every single week, week after week, with the answers.

If you’ve seen it around and wondered about it, then I encourage you to pencil in and at least attend this week’s List Building Conferences on Thursday night at 8pm EST. If not this Thursday, then next – they’re there every single Thursday night. You can sign up at this link and you’ll get an e-mail reminder – or go ahead and sign up (for free) today and get started checking it out. You really could have your GRF system up and running in 15-20 minutes or so if you really wanted to.

Taking action and being broke is a lot better than NOT taking action and being broke, any day. At least if you take action, there’s a chance something will come of it.

If you do nothing - ain’t nothing gonna happen.

I just had to chime in here again this week and say how very thrilled I am with the great results I’m getting from Jay Latour’s new advertising program that launched exactly a week ago, Traffic Bar Ads.

You know how you sometimes send out a solo e-mail or a safelist/list builder e-mail, and then watch the signups come trickling in over hours after, days, and weeks? And even months sometimes, in the case of ad sites that don’t expire their e-mails or not for a long time.

That’s not happening with Traffic Bar Ads. So far, this new advertising venue is proving to be VERY responsive.

Twice this week, I’ve sent out solo e-mail ads. Both times, I had new opt-ins to one of my lists within literally minutes.

That never happens to me (LOL). The opt-ins will come, but usually over several hours, days, a week, whatever. Not like this with Traffic Bar Ads and seeing them pop up within just a few short minutes!

I also think I’d be pretty happy about my results with the slide-up ad I’m running on Traffic Bar Ads, except I made a mistake and wasn’t thinking when I initially set it up and didn’t set it up with a tracking link. I’ve rectified that dumb mistake now and am going to be watching results closely in the immediate future.

In any case, as responsive as Traffic Bar Ads is turning out to be so far, I am really, really looking forward to watching how things go as the site and membership continues to grow from its current brand-new state right now.

So if you haven’t joined yet, I strongly encourage you to check out Traffic Bar Ads and see for yourself how responsive it is. I love getting new opt-ins and signups, don’t you? So be sure to go to Traffic Bar Ads and get your share too!

One thing I promise you guys is that I’ll always let you know of any really worthwhile places where you can advertise and promote your stuff.

And I mean TRULY, honestly worthwhile places – not places that are full of junk where no one’s logging in or seeing your ads.

Let’s see if you agree with this statement…

I don’t think there can ever be “too many places to advertise”.

Yeah, I have my favorites and my stable of “tried and true” spots that always get me results, the ones I use again and again.

But I’m always on the lookout for any place new to promote my stuff, especially if it looks promising as far as getting results and conversions.

That’s why I’m excited now to be able to tell you about Traffic Bar Ads, an awesome new place to advertise that my buddy Jay Latour has just launched today.

Traffic Bar Ads has:

  • slide-up ads
  • link cloaking
  • solo e-mails (!!!)

It’s designed to boost your web traffic and get your promotions in front of more visitors – and more high converting, targeted visitors at that.

It’s also very easy:

  • You create your ad links.
  • Your ads are displayed somewhere on the Internet as long as you have credits available.

The available credits part? Lots of ways to rack up credits, including just by logging in.

You’ve probably seen this kind of advertising before (and maybe even used it).

But one thing I am confident about with Traffic Bar Ads is that Jay – another traffic exchange owner and good, honest program owner and all around nice guy – will make this service top quality for his members and worth their while to advertise in.

So if you’re always looking for more places to advertise (I always am!), check out the brand new Traffic Bar Ads today – and start getting your ads seen!

P.S. We all know by now there’s always more benefit if you upgrade, but I do urge you to take a look at this one at least…

Upgraded members get:

  • lots more credits
  • increased solo mail capability & frequency
  • earn more credits from your downline
  • and much more!

So be sure and check out ALL the available upgrade options while you’re checking out Traffic Bar Ads – go right now and see!

I know I just posted about Safelist Marketing Tactics a little while ago, but the fabulousness of this e-book bears repeating again, here at its one-year anniversary this month.

Of all the many e-books and reports I have collected over the last few years, Jerry Iannucci’s Safelist Marketing Tactics has been one of the very most helpful I’ve gotten a hold of – if not THE most helpful, especially when it comes to using safelists and viral list builders and such for your advertising.

I’ve told the story a thousand times probably by now. I hated safelists and found them confusing and clunky to use. Dealing with the mail one gets as a safelist member was totally overwhelming.

Jerry’s e-book changed all that. I read Safelist Marketing Tactics, put a lot of his good advice to use, and now I use them almost every day and get results every time.

And after putting his tips and strategies into action – especially when it comes to getting organized using safelists – they’re no longer the headache to me they once were. Instead, they’re one of my most useful and most used tools in my marketing toolbox!

Safelist marketing is one form of advertising that is often ignored even though it produces some amazing results when used correctly.

Safelists are a great way to drive targeted traffic to your sites – but if you don’t know what you are doing, you could find yourself wasting a lot of time and money.

Grab your own free copy of Safelist Marketing Tactics and learn:

  • How to drastically reduce the time spent clicking for credits while still sending your ads to the maximum number of readers.
  • How to setup your inbox to make managing multiple safelist accounts a breeze.
  • How to stand out from the competition by creating stunning HTML emails with just a few clicks of your mouse.
  • How one simple safelist email can generate multiple streams of income for you over and over again.
  • And a whole lot more!

The crazy thing is that he is giving it away for FREE for a limited time. You can download your own free copy from here.

(PS – The book is free, but if you are lucky enough to see an upgrade offer when you login be sure to consider it.  You won’t see a deal like that again anywhere!)
