Any idiot can do what I do to make $ online. It's not rocket surgery, it's cake. Also, I like pie.

OK, first things first… you need to know that Jon Olson has called yet another TE Town Hall Meeting tonight (Monday) at 7pm EST in the Traffic Exchange Live conference room.

The main topic for tonight is:

How to Engage Other Surfers & Get Results in the Traffic Exchanges

You can read more on that and other such stuff at Jon’s latest post at Hit Exchange News.

But as always, it’s kind of a free-for-all and there will be plenty of time to talk about whatever anyone’s interested in and chitchat. There will be lots of TE owners, surfers, and probably some credit specials announced and possibly even some giveaways (knowing Jon), so drop by & hang out & network with other TE people and be here at 7pm EST tonight (Monday night).

Now onto the other stuff on tap for today… like a hot off the press (can you believe it?) TE Live update post!

Mass Hysteria Monday at Traffic Exchange Live:

  • Why “Mass Hysteria Monday”? Well, for one thing, the room today was literally INFESTED with Olsons of all flavors and as time went on, more and more Olsons kept creeping in. There was Paul Olson, sexyolson, Jimmy Olson, Tim Olson, Stephen Olson, Stick Out Olson, Puddy Olson, and probably a few other Olsons I didn’t make note of.
  • Of course Jon Olson was there as usual too, as was (late and full of excuses) Tim Linden.
  • Who were all these Olsons? At first, Jon thought Paul Kinder and Tim Rash were playing a joke on him when there were only two or three additional Olsons in the room.
  • As time wore on, it was obvious that those who did show up for TE Live on Friday (even though it was “officially” canceled) had hatched this master Olson plan for Monday.
  • I’d commented that maybe tomorrow we should all be Olsons, but as TE Live stretched on it was apparent that had already been carried out.
  • We also had Elvis Smith, Jons Friend, and Tims Friend in the room.
  • People in TE Land think they’re comedians.
  • Jon got happy fingers talking about nerdy stuff from when he was a kid:

  • We discussed tonight’s upcoming TE Town Hall Meeting at 7pm EST, as well recent goings-on in TE Land which are totally uncool and criminal and people should be shot for doing what they do, but I’m not going to post the specifics here (another reason you should always attend TE Live and other gatherings in person!).
  • Jon wanted to talk about football. Tim wanted to talk about appliances.
  • Here’s Tim talking about the dishwasher he installed all by himself today:

  • Then we all got to talking about Sweeva again and new TE marketers and how everyone’s looking for the easy button because they want to make money fast, but you have to focus on making money steadily in TEs, not fast.
  • When Jon was new, he had a newborn baby and was completely broke but eventually he made it work (obviously).
  • Jon proclaimed John Bell and Jerry Iannucci the current “Kings of Sweeva”.
  • Here’s Jerry branding Tron instead of Sweeva today:

  • I said Jerry was the court jester of Sweeva.
  • I think Tim started talking about dishwashers again before he had to disappear and go fix Sweeva.

  • During all this, there was still such Olsonism going on all around the room that I just really couldn’t keep up.
  • Jon pushed his big red “That was easy” easy button and Robert Puddy pushed some talking button he has that I think said something I can’t print here or I’d be rated R.
  • And then Jon got a charley horse and boy, did that look like it hurt live on cam:

  • And pretty soon we all sort of dispersed, except a lot of people never actually left and are probably still there, because the TE Town Hall Meeting was going to be in less than three hours anyway (at 7pm EST).
  • GIVEAWAYS: I might as well stop even adding this line… (ahem)
  • I CALL YOU OUT ABOVE, YOU GET LINKAGE: Insidmal Design (John Bell), Safelist Marketing Tactics (Jerry Iannucci), Advertising Know How (Robert Puddy)
  • ALSO SEEN ON THE SCENE: James Holmes, Justin Ledvina, Kevin Bailey, Stephen Whittle, Darrell Whiston, Anthony Shenberger, Darren Olander, Charles Smith, Jared Silver, Andrea Smith, Julio Ruiz, Dorena Begonia, Cat Heiter, Robert Puddy, Beth Allen, Diane Merriam
  • QUOTE OF THE DAY: “Should we all be named Linden tonight?” – Jerry Iannucci

So the good news is that my interview that was supposed to be yesterday for the Discover Traffic Exchanges Traffic Exchange Owners Podcast Marathon is being rescheduled for next week. I don’t know what day yet, but will certainly post as soon as I know.

And show host James Holmes had mentioned the other day a possible upcoming mystery guest being added to the event’s lineup (I know who it is… but I’m not telling!!!), so what is probably going to happen is that whatever day next week on James’ show, there will be two interviews that day much like there are all this week – one with the mystery guest, and one with me. So in essence, the Marathon’s being extended an extra day, so that’s cool.

So how come I didn’t make it for the interview yesterday?

Here’s the horror story of how my sorry day went yesterday…

  • 1:00 am-ish EST: I wake up after a what was supposed to be just a nap but wound up rather extended, and I’m getting kind of excited about the interview and can’t go back to sleep anyway so I just stay up, getting quite a bit of work done and also making several notes (in Notepad on my computer) about some things I wanted to be sure to touch on during the interview.
  • 7:00 am EST: I send out a mail to Traffic Pro-X members reminding them about the interview, and some other TPX news.
  • 8:00 to 11:30 am EST: People start waking up and coming online and I respond to several very nice and generous IMs and Tweets from various people wishing me luck on the interview and saying how much they’re looking forward to it and intending to be there. I’ve also by then posted about the interview here on the blog, posted a reminder in my blog’s Facebook group, and had been running the Discover Traffic Exchanges page all morning at Sweeva again as I had on Monday as well. The Sweevers had left many good comments on the page and responding positively all week so far, and some of them seemed to be planning to attend too.
  • 11:30 am or so EST: ThumbVu owner John Guanzon grabs me in IM and wishes me luck with the interview and we chat for a bit, and I also take the opportunity to ask him a few Traffic Pro-X related questions (since I bought TPX from John) that I thought I knew the answer to, but wanted to be sure in case any of them came up during the interview.
  • 12 pm EST: I notice my reminder to myself to switch the surf bonus at Traffic Pro-X to 3x, as promised in the mail to the members that morning, before the interview starts. But then I get busy with something else and don’t do it, though I plan to before the next hour passes.
  • 12:20 pm EST: Winter Perkins grabs me in IM (which is normal, Winter and I chat just about every day) wishing me luck and we get to talking about some design-related stuff and Reactive Adz and some all around general girl talk as we usually do.
  • 12:38 pm EST: Winter and I are in the middle of our conversation and I’m in the middle of typing a response to something she said and my monitor goes blank… BECAUSE MY POWER HAS GONE OUT.
  • 12:39 pm EST: Panic.
  • 12:40 pm EST: I call the utility company’s automated line and am told I am the first household to report this outage. Woohoo, I guess? I have 15 minutes before I’m supposed to call in for the interview.
  • 12:41 pm EST: Think, “Well, I’ll just call in and do the interview on my cell phone” – even though I had been planning to call in via Skype , because the one cell phone I had in service yesterday was old and starting to go bad, but figure I’ll just use it anyway. I also immediately turn on my laptop even though I know this is probably going to be futile (more on that momentarily).
  • 12:42 pm EST: Then I remember I don’t have the call-in number for the show because IT’S ON THE COMPUTER and I didn’t write it down AND I HAVE NO POWER. As are my nice little notes I made ON THE COMPUTER. Nor do I have any immediately helpful numbers stored in either of my cell phones.
  • 12:43 to 12:50 pm EST: A desperate series of calls to various people I could get to log on to James’ site and get that call-in number… IF I COULD GET A HOLD OF ANY OF THEM. I call my mom at work, my boyfriend, my sister, my godmother… and get nothing but voice mails and answering machines.
  • 12:51 pm EST: I call back up to my mom’s place of work and ask the secretary (who I don’t know) if she could maybe do me a big favor and look up something on the Internet for me. Which might not have been a problem… except she was having trouble hearing me and understanding me – my first realization that I might not be able to be understood and heard during the interview even if I could get my hands on the dratted call-in number. I give up and thank her.
  • 12:52 pm EST: I call the automated line at the utility company and am informed that I have already reported this outage, and would I like more information? I would, and next learn that 302 residences are without power at this time in 13 neighborhoods, and that utility crews are working to repair the outages “as fast as they can”.
  • 12:53 pm EST: I notice after I hang up that the “bad” cell phone, which had a full charge less than ten minutes ago, now has almost no charge left – the second realization that I probably would not be able to call in and complete the interview even if I got a hold of the call-in number.
  • 12:54 pm EST: My laptop, which is just about dead and really no longer works and has no working keyboard anymore, has booted up finally – though what I think I’m going to do with it due to the keyboard thing, I don’t know, since I can’t type in any websites to get to them. I also notice that somehow it has cleared my wireless network information and – again due to having no real keyboard anymore to speak of – I can’t log on to the wireless connection ANYWAY. Useless.
  • 12:55 pm EST: I am supposed to be calling into James’ show right now for a pre-interview sound check. It occurs to me to open up the other cell phone (which is on a pay-as-you-go plan, I don’t really use ANY phone enough anymore to justify a contract) – the “good” one – and see if there is a # code number I can call to automatically put more funds on it since I know it’s empty.
  • 12:56 pm EST: I find the account balance information section of the phone (I haven’t had it very long so took a minute)… which tells me to go to the website to add more funds. GREAT.
  • 12:57 pm EST: I call my mom’s home number, in hopes that maybe, maybe, maybe she went home for lunch, as she occasionally does… but get her answering machine too.
  • 12:58 pm EST: I call the utility company again. Still 302 residences without power, including me.
  • 12:59 pm EST: I pace. And panic some more.
  • 1:00 pm EST: I’m supposed to be starting the interview with James right now. Sigh.
  • 1:01 pm EST: I stare out the front window at the street… as if that’s going to get the power back on.
  • 1:02 pm EST: I walk back to the computer desk and flop down in my chair, defeated. There’s nothing else I can do and no one I can contact can help me or is available.
  • 1:03 pm EST: For a second I think about jumping in my car and driving to Starbucks, which is less than a mile away. But then I remember the whole half dead laptop/no working keyboard thing.
  • 1:04 to 1:14 pm EST: I flop back in my chair again, defeated again, and start thinking about not only this whole catastrophe but everything else that’s been going wrong and been very difficult in offline life lately and – nope, not ashamed to admit this – burst into tears and sob uncontrollably for a good ten minutes until I’ve about worn myself out, lol.
  • 1:15 pm EST: It occurs to me that I never did get around to setting the TPX surf bonus as promised to 3x before the power went out. (Sorry, TPX members!)
  • 1:16 pm EST: I grab a pillow and stretch out in my “nap chair”, staying awake in case the power suddenly comes back on. It doesn’t.
  • 2:00 pm to 2:15 pm EST: Somewhere in here I doze off, miserably.
  • 2:15 pm to 5:30 pm EST: Sometime during this period the power comes back on, but I’m asleep anyway.
  • 5:30 pm EST: My mother calls wanting to know what happened (she had forgotten about the interview and due to the whole bad phone thing I probably couldn’t really be understood on her answering machine anyway), and then informs me that she and my godmother (who, as you’ll remember, I’d also placed a desperate and unanswered call to) had been at the emergency room all afternoon.
  • 6:00 pm EST: I get back online and catch up with Winter and James, apologize and explain what happened, then discuss the whole rescheduling the interview next week with James, and life goes on.

So there ya go. That’s what all I was doing while you were wondering where the heck I was. Ugh.

Two things I have learned from this horrible experience (well, several things really, but primarily these two):

  • Put the call-in number for James’ show in BOTH cell phones’ contact lists (already done)!
  • I really, really, really, REALLY need a new laptop.

In any case, all that naturally pretty much ruined my whole day, and after getting a couple of things done after I was awake and had power again, I went back to sleep. I did get up later and listened to the hour that SHOULD have been my interview, and listened to Robert Puddy of Advertising KnowHow‘s terrific interview from yesterday.

The event continues today and here’s the schedule for the remainder of this week (all times EST):

If you can’t make the live broadcasts, no worries – they are all being recorded (or in the case of the ones that have already been broadcast, been recorded) and archived for later listening.

You can sign up to get the link and a reminder about it (and all the other interviews for the week) here:

==> Discover Traffic Exchanges

And again, I’ll post the information as soon as I know when my interview is being rescheduled for next week.

Sorry I missed it yesterday, gang… as you can see above, it really couldn’t be helped – and as you can probably imagine, I would have MUCH rather been there!

GET REFERRALS FAST UPGRADED MEMBERS TRAINING CONFERENCE TONIGHT: At least I hope this is correct and it’s still on for tonight… tonight should be the October advanced training session for upgraded members of Get Referrals Fast at 8pm EST.

Tonight’s conference is for upgraded members only – but the usual Thursday night conference tomorrow night at 8pm EST is free and open to all members of the public, whether members of GRF or not.

Thursday night’s conference with Jerry Reeder, Mike Paetzold and Jay Hines is going to be a special and different one than usual in that it’s going to be an open mic night and a Downline Builders Town Hall Meeting.

More info about this informal chat about building downlines is here on the Get Referrals Fast training blog. If you’re an upgraded member of GRF, join us tonight – and if you’re not a member at all (or if you are) and interested in learning how to build your downlines bigtime, join us at the free conference Thursday night!

So today’s the big day – I’m being interviewed on James Holmes’ Traffic Exchange Owners Podcast Marathon at 1:00pm EST.

I keep thinking, “Yeesh, what in the world am I going to talk about for a whole HOUR…” – but James is an awesome interviewer so hopefully it will be at least kinda interesting (fingers crossed).

You can sign up to get the link and a reminder about it (and all the other interviews for the week) here:

==> Discover Traffic Exchanges

Yesterday’s interviews with Tim Linden (StartXchange and Sweeva) and Tony Tezak of Tezak Traffic Power were really great and interesting and informative, and the whole project is just really super cool, featuring two interviews daily with traffic exchange owners all week through Friday – and, as James mentioned yesterday, possibly another mystery guest to be added and announced (I’ve no idea who or when).

Here’s the schedule for the rest of the week (all times EST):

If you can’t make the live broadcasts, no worries – they are all being recorded (or in the case of the ones that have already been broadcast, been recorded) and archived for later listening.

Tony & Tim both gave out some generous and terrific bonuses for members of their exchanges yesterday during their interviews and I’ll have a special for Traffic Pro-X members today as well, and I assume most of the rest of the participating owners will have some special offers on hand during their own interviews too.

So tune in live if you can, or listen later – if you follow me on Twitter, I will no doubt be Tweeting a reminder shortly before time to start as well.

By the way (and I think this probably goes for the rest of the week as well), there is probably no traditional Traffic Exchange Live the rest of the week since there’s a chat room open during the interviews at James’ BlogTalkRadio page, and we all seem to be congregating there while the interviews are going on (or as Tim said in the TE Live email yesterday, they’re forcing us all to do our networking over there this week in honor of the podcast marathon… lol not that we mind). So if you’re looking for the TE Live crew, that’s where we’ll be!

LISTJOE STILL GIVING OUT 2-5X CREDITS: I really did think it was just for August, but apparently it’s stretching out into October too because credit links at ListJoe are still resulting in two to five times the credits per link.

No complaints from me – I’m usually struggling to keep enough credits stocked to mail there, so if it goes on indefinitely that’s A-OK with moi.

It’ll probably be over before long, though, I’m guessing, so head over to ListJoe and stock up your mailing credits while you can!
