Any idiot can do what I do to make $ online. It's not rocket surgery, it's cake. Also, I like pie.

I’ll make this one short and sweet, because (as some are already aware) I am in the midst of preparing to get away for a VERY much-needed long weekend with my Prince Charming, whom I haven’t gotten to see in person in a very long time… maybe.

(Actually, as I write this, plans are appearing to be a little more up in the air and less solid than they were a few days ago, though I think it’s still on. That said, if I should show up at Affiliate Funnel conference on Saturday… I’m just saying it probably would not be a good idea to ask me what happened to my weekend plans. Heh.)

Anyway – today is Thursday, so that means tonight Mike Paetzold and Jerry Reeder are up to their usual expert marketer tricks and tips, teaching people how to build a solid foundation for their online business at the weekly (and free, did I mention free?!?!) Get Referrals Fast training conference at 8pm EST tonight.

This week is Part Two of the four-part series that they do over and over again, so this week’s topic, I believe, should be about getting results.

So you really probably don’t want to miss this one, especially if you’re NOT getting results with what you’re currently doing.

As always, these weekly conferences are free and open to the public, you don’t have to be a member of Get Referrals Fast (though I certainly recommend the program highly), you don’t have to talk or type and can just listen, you can ask any and all questions about online marketing and such you want, and anyone can come.

Just show up here at 8pm EST tonight (Thursday):

==> Get Referrals Fast Conference Room (sorry, no longer available)

And Mike and Jerry will do the rest and teach you everything and more about getting results than you’d ever hope to find out on your own. Valuable, useful information… and it’s all free.

As for me and here on the blog, I have some posts lined up for a couple of days so just because I’m posting doesn’t mean I didn’t leave for my getaway as intended (and my four large dogs will be guarding the house of course, not that I have anything anyone wants to steal anyway, lol). I will in any case be hitting Traffic Exchange Live today as usual (hopefully!) and be back on Monday in time for TE Live, or close anyway.

TAKE OFF, EH… WITH TOP FLIGHT: I gave some well-deserved props last week and in yesterday’s post – and I’m gonna do it again – to my friend and fellow TE Live regular Randy Ritter’s crib, Top Flight Traffic, after noticing while making my weekly rounds checking on my traffic exchange credits that traffic was moving at a righteous speed over there.

And as was also mentioned, Jon Olson has called Top Flight Traffic one of the most well-managed traffic exchanges out there and he ain’t lying. If you need something or have questions, Randy won’t just contact you in e-mail or whatever – the man’s liable to just pick up the phone and CALL you! He’s pleasantly surprised LOTS of his members that way. Randy’s just a darn all-around good guy.

So seriously, and again, if you’re not a member of this awesome traffic exchange, I encourage you to join Top Flight Traffic today ‘cos it just rocks, and especially is rockin’ the traffic right now here lately!

What to say about Traffic Exchange Live the last few days? I don’t know, it’s been kind of an oddball week or so, lots of mostly just chit-chat, Jon feeling blah a couple of days so he wasn’t really on, and we’ve done some different things like watch someone besides Jon cook for a change. Just sort of a mish-mosh of stuff this week… but I have pictures!

Oh, and pssst… something BIG is coming on Monday that all TE Live regulars have been preparing for… so be watching your e-mail box (and this blog) on Monday. Just saying!

Anyhoo, let’s see what’s been up at TE Live this week and last Friday…

The Week (so far) That Was on Traffic Exchange Live:

  • Jon Olson’s been on board most days, even though he had a blah couple of days this week and wasn’t on cam much. John Guanzon’s been on quite a bit. Tim Linden has sort of been around, although he said on Monday he was on sort of an anti-work kick this week.
  • We took a look Friday at StartXchange’s new design, which all of us at TE Live had already seen a preview of.
  • Tim said Jon had been making fun of the new design all day.
  • Most of the TE Live’rs seemed to like it and many commented on how clean it was.
  • Jon came on cam Friday dancing to The Rolling Stones’ “Paint it Black”.
  • Much commenting on Jon’s new major haircut – Jon said he’s being a virtual Marine with his bigtime shaved head, which was kind of an accident.
  • Speaking of which, we then listened to several sound bites (courtesy of Jon) from the film Full Metal Jacket.
  • I had been trying for several days – but kept missing Randy in the rooms – and finally got a chance to congratulate Randy Ritter publicly and comment publicly on how fabulously I’d noticed traffic was moving at Top Flight Traffic when I did my weekly rounds of checking credits.
  • Randy mentioned and thanked Jon for a comment of kudos he’d left about Top Flight Traffic being one of the most well-managed TEs around. Everyone in the room agreed that TFT is doing swell these days & is a terrific traffic exchange.
  • And hey, here’s today’s dose of Jerry Iannucci for your viewing pleasure:

* (sorry, photo is no longer here)

  • For some reason that pic reminds me of the whole Sad Keanu thing. Sad Jerry, mayhaps?
  • We’ve spent quite a bit of time in TE Live the last several days discussing the thing that I can’t tell you about that’s coming out on Monday, but it’s being released by Jon Olson & John Guanzon and you can find out right here on the blog on Monday, November 22nd.
  • We discussed probably having Monday’s (and maybe Tuesday’s) TE Live in the UStream room instead due to this thing on Monday (Tim’s idea, which Jon said was a good one).
  • We also discussed the crazy lady at I Love Hits… probably the less said about her, the better, but she’s obviously a special kind of crazy.
  • Jared Silver will surf for food:

* (sorry, photo is no longer here)

  • Jon made a new post at Hit Exchange News on Monday and was thrilled to see a comment on the post from old-school marketer Nick Martin.
  • Then Jon was talking about how when he was starting out that he was “timid” (I can’t EVEN imagine) and just listened to guys like Nick Martin and James Grandstaff and never said a word (I still can’t even imagine) back in his days starting out in online marketing and in MPAM.
  • Pretty long discussion about AlertPay vs. PayPal vs. StormPay and how AlertPay is really rocking, PayPal sucks but what can you do (hopefully AlertPay will continue to grow stronger and “take over”?) and StormPay just sucked.
  • Jon’s been having some work done on his basement and, on Monday, took us via his iPhone on a tour.
  • Dakota approves of the new carpet in the basement:

* (sorry, photo is no longer here)

  • On Tuesday, Jon was feeling a little blah and mostly laid back and stayed off cam. John had a friend over who John’s been helping film for a cooking show, so we watched John’s friend Josh Mafnas cook Potatoes O’Brien in the wok (he also had barbecued chicken cooking on the grill):

* (sorry, photo is no longer here)

  • Josh has started his cooking site and YouTube channel to bring Chamorro cooking and dinanche to the Web. He and his wife are headed back to Guam soon and John Guanzon and his wife have been arranging marketing and shipping plans to get the peppers Josh uses specially in his cooking to Guam, and there’s this whole big marketing plan going on there which we all talked about for a while. Josh has a special super secret (and apparently VERY hot!) sauce he makes with these peppers that he’ll be selling online.
  • Not too much was going on Wednesday, but Jon drank Old Tyme ginger beer (which led to a long discussion of ginger beer vs. ginger ale, Vernor’s, etc.).
  • Jon also had his Zola acai downstairs, and James Holmes drinks Kombucha and talked about that.
  • And in the ongoing tradition of TE Live pets, we got to meet James Holmes‘ buddy Baxter:

* (sorry, photo is no longer here)

  • GIVEAWAYS: None this week.
  • I CALL YOU OUT ABOVE, YOU GET LINKAGE: Sweeva (Jon Olson), ThumbVu (John Guanzon), TE Toolbox (Tim Linden), Top Flight Traffic (Randy Ritter), Safelist Marketing Tactics (Jerry Iannucci), Jared Silver, MrPikaGuam.com (Josh Mafnas), SWAT Traffic (James Holmes)
  • ALSO SEEN ON THE SCENE: Brenda Broyles, Carl Bailey, Charles Smith, Darrell Whiston, Dorena Begonia, Ellyn Weber-Bynum, Emma Jones, Justin Ledvina, Paul Brown, Stephen Whittle, Tom Canzoneri, Faith Brooks, Anthony Shenberger, Lynne Sherman, Beth Allen, Diane Merriam, Ken Locatelli, Gary Calvert, Lisa Woods, Shawn Mackey, Neil Grippa
  • QUOTE OF THE WEEK (so far): “Tim has good ideas.” – Jon Olson

TTP & SWAT CONFERENCES TONIGHT:
I’m a little later than I should have been today getting this posted, but just wanted to send out a quick reminder that both Tezak Traffic Power’s bi-weekly conference and SWAT Conference are tonight… and it’s special tonight as both TTP owner Tony Tezak and SWAT owner James Holmes are offering 100 credits per friend you bring to each if you bring a friend – and the friend gets credits too!

Tezak Traffic Power Conference is at 6:30 pm EST here:

==> TTP Conference Room

and SWAT Conference is at 8pm EST here:

==> SWAT Conference room

If you’ve never been before, I invite you to join me at either or both and say you came as my friend – heck, I can use the credits and I’m sure you can too, right? Hope to see you there! :)

So the good news is that my interview that was supposed to be yesterday for the Discover Traffic Exchanges Traffic Exchange Owners Podcast Marathon is being rescheduled for next week. I don’t know what day yet, but will certainly post as soon as I know.

And show host James Holmes had mentioned the other day a possible upcoming mystery guest being added to the event’s lineup (I know who it is… but I’m not telling!!!), so what is probably going to happen is that whatever day next week on James’ show, there will be two interviews that day much like there are all this week – one with the mystery guest, and one with me. So in essence, the Marathon’s being extended an extra day, so that’s cool.

So how come I didn’t make it for the interview yesterday?

Here’s the horror story of how my sorry day went yesterday…

  • 1:00 am-ish EST: I wake up after a what was supposed to be just a nap but wound up rather extended, and I’m getting kind of excited about the interview and can’t go back to sleep anyway so I just stay up, getting quite a bit of work done and also making several notes (in Notepad on my computer) about some things I wanted to be sure to touch on during the interview.
  • 7:00 am EST: I send out a mail to Traffic Pro-X members reminding them about the interview, and some other TPX news.
  • 8:00 to 11:30 am EST: People start waking up and coming online and I respond to several very nice and generous IMs and Tweets from various people wishing me luck on the interview and saying how much they’re looking forward to it and intending to be there. I’ve also by then posted about the interview here on the blog, posted a reminder in my blog’s Facebook group, and had been running the Discover Traffic Exchanges page all morning at Sweeva again as I had on Monday as well. The Sweevers had left many good comments on the page and responding positively all week so far, and some of them seemed to be planning to attend too.
  • 11:30 am or so EST: ThumbVu owner John Guanzon grabs me in IM and wishes me luck with the interview and we chat for a bit, and I also take the opportunity to ask him a few Traffic Pro-X related questions (since I bought TPX from John) that I thought I knew the answer to, but wanted to be sure in case any of them came up during the interview.
  • 12 pm EST: I notice my reminder to myself to switch the surf bonus at Traffic Pro-X to 3x, as promised in the mail to the members that morning, before the interview starts. But then I get busy with something else and don’t do it, though I plan to before the next hour passes.
  • 12:20 pm EST: Winter Perkins grabs me in IM (which is normal, Winter and I chat just about every day) wishing me luck and we get to talking about some design-related stuff and Reactive Adz and some all around general girl talk as we usually do.
  • 12:38 pm EST: Winter and I are in the middle of our conversation and I’m in the middle of typing a response to something she said and my monitor goes blank… BECAUSE MY POWER HAS GONE OUT.
  • 12:39 pm EST: Panic.
  • 12:40 pm EST: I call the utility company’s automated line and am told I am the first household to report this outage. Woohoo, I guess? I have 15 minutes before I’m supposed to call in for the interview.
  • 12:41 pm EST: Think, “Well, I’ll just call in and do the interview on my cell phone” – even though I had been planning to call in via Skype , because the one cell phone I had in service yesterday was old and starting to go bad, but figure I’ll just use it anyway. I also immediately turn on my laptop even though I know this is probably going to be futile (more on that momentarily).
  • 12:42 pm EST: Then I remember I don’t have the call-in number for the show because IT’S ON THE COMPUTER and I didn’t write it down AND I HAVE NO POWER. As are my nice little notes I made ON THE COMPUTER. Nor do I have any immediately helpful numbers stored in either of my cell phones.
  • 12:43 to 12:50 pm EST: A desperate series of calls to various people I could get to log on to James’ site and get that call-in number… IF I COULD GET A HOLD OF ANY OF THEM. I call my mom at work, my boyfriend, my sister, my godmother… and get nothing but voice mails and answering machines.
  • 12:51 pm EST: I call back up to my mom’s place of work and ask the secretary (who I don’t know) if she could maybe do me a big favor and look up something on the Internet for me. Which might not have been a problem… except she was having trouble hearing me and understanding me – my first realization that I might not be able to be understood and heard during the interview even if I could get my hands on the dratted call-in number. I give up and thank her.
  • 12:52 pm EST: I call the automated line at the utility company and am informed that I have already reported this outage, and would I like more information? I would, and next learn that 302 residences are without power at this time in 13 neighborhoods, and that utility crews are working to repair the outages “as fast as they can”.
  • 12:53 pm EST: I notice after I hang up that the “bad” cell phone, which had a full charge less than ten minutes ago, now has almost no charge left – the second realization that I probably would not be able to call in and complete the interview even if I got a hold of the call-in number.
  • 12:54 pm EST: My laptop, which is just about dead and really no longer works and has no working keyboard anymore, has booted up finally – though what I think I’m going to do with it due to the keyboard thing, I don’t know, since I can’t type in any websites to get to them. I also notice that somehow it has cleared my wireless network information and – again due to having no real keyboard anymore to speak of – I can’t log on to the wireless connection ANYWAY. Useless.
  • 12:55 pm EST: I am supposed to be calling into James’ show right now for a pre-interview sound check. It occurs to me to open up the other cell phone (which is on a pay-as-you-go plan, I don’t really use ANY phone enough anymore to justify a contract) – the “good” one – and see if there is a # code number I can call to automatically put more funds on it since I know it’s empty.
  • 12:56 pm EST: I find the account balance information section of the phone (I haven’t had it very long so took a minute)… which tells me to go to the website to add more funds. GREAT.
  • 12:57 pm EST: I call my mom’s home number, in hopes that maybe, maybe, maybe she went home for lunch, as she occasionally does… but get her answering machine too.
  • 12:58 pm EST: I call the utility company again. Still 302 residences without power, including me.
  • 12:59 pm EST: I pace. And panic some more.
  • 1:00 pm EST: I’m supposed to be starting the interview with James right now. Sigh.
  • 1:01 pm EST: I stare out the front window at the street… as if that’s going to get the power back on.
  • 1:02 pm EST: I walk back to the computer desk and flop down in my chair, defeated. There’s nothing else I can do and no one I can contact can help me or is available.
  • 1:03 pm EST: For a second I think about jumping in my car and driving to Starbucks, which is less than a mile away. But then I remember the whole half dead laptop/no working keyboard thing.
  • 1:04 to 1:14 pm EST: I flop back in my chair again, defeated again, and start thinking about not only this whole catastrophe but everything else that’s been going wrong and been very difficult in offline life lately and – nope, not ashamed to admit this – burst into tears and sob uncontrollably for a good ten minutes until I’ve about worn myself out, lol.
  • 1:15 pm EST: It occurs to me that I never did get around to setting the TPX surf bonus as promised to 3x before the power went out. (Sorry, TPX members!)
  • 1:16 pm EST: I grab a pillow and stretch out in my “nap chair”, staying awake in case the power suddenly comes back on. It doesn’t.
  • 2:00 pm to 2:15 pm EST: Somewhere in here I doze off, miserably.
  • 2:15 pm to 5:30 pm EST: Sometime during this period the power comes back on, but I’m asleep anyway.
  • 5:30 pm EST: My mother calls wanting to know what happened (she had forgotten about the interview and due to the whole bad phone thing I probably couldn’t really be understood on her answering machine anyway), and then informs me that she and my godmother (who, as you’ll remember, I’d also placed a desperate and unanswered call to) had been at the emergency room all afternoon.
  • 6:00 pm EST: I get back online and catch up with Winter and James, apologize and explain what happened, then discuss the whole rescheduling the interview next week with James, and life goes on.

So there ya go. That’s what all I was doing while you were wondering where the heck I was. Ugh.

Two things I have learned from this horrible experience (well, several things really, but primarily these two):

  • Put the call-in number for James’ show in BOTH cell phones’ contact lists (already done)!
  • I really, really, really, REALLY need a new laptop.

In any case, all that naturally pretty much ruined my whole day, and after getting a couple of things done after I was awake and had power again, I went back to sleep. I did get up later and listened to the hour that SHOULD have been my interview, and listened to Robert Puddy of Advertising KnowHow‘s terrific interview from yesterday.

The event continues today and here’s the schedule for the remainder of this week (all times EST):

If you can’t make the live broadcasts, no worries – they are all being recorded (or in the case of the ones that have already been broadcast, been recorded) and archived for later listening.

You can sign up to get the link and a reminder about it (and all the other interviews for the week) here:

==> Discover Traffic Exchanges

And again, I’ll post the information as soon as I know when my interview is being rescheduled for next week.

Sorry I missed it yesterday, gang… as you can see above, it really couldn’t be helped – and as you can probably imagine, I would have MUCH rather been there!
